Trust, Silence, and Shadows: Why We Love Psychological Thrillers

There’s something irresistible about a good psychological thriller. It’s not just the plot twists or the chilling settings—it’s the feeling that at any moment, reality itself might not be what it seems.
When I wrote In the Wake of Silence, I kept asking myself: what’s scarier—the truth you can’t face, or the lies your own mind might be telling you? That question has fascinated me for years.
Why Thrillers Keep Us Up at Night
Thrillers speak to our deepest fears: losing control, doubting our memories, questioning who we can trust. Unlike horror, which often shows us the monster, psychological suspense makes us the unreliable ones. It forces us to ask: What if I’m not seeing the whole picture?
Books like The Silent Patient or Shutter Island don’t just entertain—they trap us in a maze of perception, daring us to find the exit.
The Inspiration Behind In the Wake of Silence
For me, the spark was the idea of twins—two halves of the same life. What happens when one is gone, and the other is left questioning not only their bond, but their very identity? The silence that follows isn’t empty—it’s full of shadows.
That’s the kind of story I wanted to tell: a book that makes you second-guess every page, right up until the end.
